another head sketch
- October 31, 2008
whoops! long time no see. I haven't been lazy I promise. I have a lot of unfinished projects that are begging to be rendered, but my unfortunate computer is unable to handle them. I dont have the patience to wait an hour for one render!
I will be buying a new computer within the next couple of months so stay tuned. (I'm waiting for that awesome intel core i7 chip to come out)
For now you can look at a simple sketch I did, so enjoy!
batch convert to .map
- May 7, 2008
For those who are interested. This nifty program will batch convert any images into a .map file. I found this on a forum somewhere so I dont know who to give credit to for making this (sorry!!).
As far as I know theres no simple way to batch convert stuff (unless you use XSI) so this is a great tool.
Though it really should be integrated somewhere in maya. If anyone finds an easy way to do this on a mac can you please email me?
Download the file here!
edit: thanks for the heads up. heres the original thread i found it on. Francesca Luce is the author of the script.
Cheers!
Work
- April 30, 2008
I'm flattered by the emails, but I'm taken. Modeling position at AnthemFX.
Studio wip2
- April 28, 2008

Update on the studio. Very rough and textures still need work.
Studio
- April 23, 2008

blocking out a casual art space complete with photons, FG, physical sun/sky, and books that defy the laws of physics. Sets like this make really fun lighting exercises.

Sketch
- April 21, 2008
Heres a sketch that i made last night. I wanted to capture a clayish unfinished look. I try to do at least one head sketch a week to keep myself from losing my "edge", But I usually forget or I end up getting absorbed in a different project.
For the lighting I fooled around with the mental ray physical sun/sky and the mi_exposure_photographic which is a handy tool for tweaking the gamma and adding the vignette effect, which is something I've always been fond of.
Update: oops, priorities changed a bit. I'm concentrated on making a nice light model/environment that i can re-use for other models. Experimenting on indoor lighting with portal lights!
Assassin's Creed
- April 15, 2008
Well today I finished playing assassin's creed on the PC, and all I can say is WOW. Its one of the funnest games I've
played in a long time. The cities are stunning. I got furiously jealous of the artists at ubisoft while running around
"Acre", one of the main cities in Assassin's Creed. Thats the kind of architecture I really love. Climbing the beautiful
massive church (and then jumping off it into a pile of hay) was one of my favourite moments. The fighting system was
perfect. Its exactly how it should be. Even by the end of the game I was always happy to fight hordes of guards
without it feeling repetitive.
Assassin's Creed is one of those amazing games that sets the bar even higher for the rest of the world, but it wasn't without its flaws.
The missions where you investigate your assassination target became dreadfully repetitive, and the "eavesdrop" and "pickpocketing" missions were far to simple. I think they should have "sculpted" the missions for each target
to feel a little more unique. I understand that they wanted to create a non-linear system but sometimes taking control in certain areas of a game can improve the experience.
Aside from its flaws, the game is very compelling and was definitely worth the time and money. I look forward to any future installments in the vast and gorgeous world that Ubisoft has created.
Maya hotkeys
- April 11, 2008
Usually the XSI vs Maya discussion pops up quite often and I'm always asked which program I prefer. I have been using Maya since version 5 and it is what im most comfortable with. When I tell people im a faster modeler
in maya than XSI they put this stunned look on they're face and I explain to them that they really just need to create a solid set of hotkeys for themselves to feel more comfortable with the maya environment.
XSI gives you a logical set of hotkeys that work perfectly. The interaction is seamless and so its no wonder that many people tend to lean towards XSI.
Maya also has some default hotkeys that are very useful but from I've seen they have been very under-rated. So heres the list of default maya hotkeys and the list that i made for myself.
Shift + right-click: when in component mode or object mode this hotkey will bring up a list of the most relevant commands for you.
Ctrl + right-click: brings up a list of various selection commands.
Ctrl + space-bar: This hides the entire interface. When im modeling i hide the interface and rely solely on my hotkeys.
Ctrl + a: Toggles between the attribute editor and the channel box/layers.
My Custom made hotkeys:
ctl + w: SoftModDeformer
ctl + e: DeleteHistory
alt + q: ArtPaintSelectTool
ctl + alt + 2: CVCurveTool
alt + w: CenterPivot
alt + x: InsertEdgeLoopTool
alt + e: InvertSelection
alt + a: SelectEdgeLoop
alt + z: SelectEdgeRing
alt + s: SplitPolygonTool
ctl + alt +z: AppendToPolygonTool
alt + 2: SelectIsolate
New Design!
- April 9, 2008
Well heres a new design! like it? I might end up doing a new design every couple of months or so. its sorta like a hobby, I suppose.
I'm still working on getting the portfolio section up and running which should be done in another day or so.
My first design was somewhat rushed and the general philosophy was to have all the nesessary information on one simple page so that I could send out my resume asap. For the new design, I've simplified it even further but spread the information out a little. The portfolio section is a bit more user friendly now (I've pleasantly discovered the wonders of SSI).
Vulcan, work in progress
- March 15, 2008
I've been spreading my time over several projects so getting them completely finished will take some time. However I felt like dabbling in another figure sculpture which is usually quite quick to do and very relaxing. I should be done quite soon.
This one is by the french sculptor Guillaume Coustou the Younger (1716 - 1777). His father was also a very well known sculptor (also named Guillaume) who is known for his "horse tamer" sculpture. Some of his other works are sitting in the louvre.

All Set Up!
- Feb 14, 2008
Okay I think I'm pretty much finished this website for now. I really just need to start replacing all my old work with some more quality stuff. Not bad for about 4 days work though, considering I could hardly remember how to write HTML or upload the site. Filezilla is my friend. Anyways I'm thinking this website can also be a blog or something, where i can force my sarcasm and rantings against the masses! mwahahaha! Or maybe some zbrush videos/tutorials? Organize life drawing sessions? a forum?
If you find anything awry let me know!
